In collaboration with Filipina/African American choreographer and artistic director of the Push Dance Company, Raissa Simpson, a rarely seen dance work, Bitter Melon, and a movement-based video projection utilizing two oversized 3D projectors will took place on the evenings of Friday May 25th, Saturday May 26th, Sunday May 27th and Monday May 28th, 2012 in Union Square, San Francisco. 2012 marks the 112th anniversary of the Filipino-American war.
The projection was cast onto the victory column using two oversized projectors to mark the 112th anniversary of the filipino-american war over memorial day weekend. the pillar was an urban witness bearing both visual and audio testimony as evidence of its meaning in relation to U.S. militarism and global expansionism where animated figures actualize the story of the American battle with Spain.
This following video documentation of a public projection that took place on Memorial Day weekend (May 25-28) 2012 as a poetic reconsideration of the history of the monument.
